Learn advanced skills for non-verbal communication when public speaking
Public Speaking is one of the most powerful ways to communicate with people.
Because the entire show is performed by one person, it has a level of energy and intensity that few other mediums can match. You can develop this energy to entertain and inspire hundreds and thousands of people at a time.
There is a deeply primal aspect to public speaking that connects with people, we were public speaking long before we could make movies, podcasts and even write books. You can develop deep connections with your audience in a short time from the stage,
Public speaking gives people a figurehead to follow, and that’s why it has the power to launch and lead movements. You can build a movement through your speeches.
When you learn how to bring your words to life on stage, you will be able to change lives.
How a person communicates is as important as what they say.
If you have a great message, but it doesn’t land, then you are not having the impact you should.
It is not just your words that say something, your body speaks too.
Do you feel stiff and awkward when on stage? Your audience will feel awkward too.
Do you feel like you are overcompensating and forced when on stage? Your audience will feel you are trying too hard and you’ll lose credibility.
Maybe you are finding your stories and humour aren’t landing. A lot of the time that isn’t down to what you are saying, but how your body language matches it.
It was my dream to move people through words from a young age. From my earliest memories, when teachers at school asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up, my answer was always “author”.
At university, I got to fulfill that dream, self-publishing two fiction books. They didn’t get read much beyond friends and family, but that didn’t matter, I was in the game.
Towards the end of university, I had started writing my third fiction book, when my dad was given a terminal cancer diagnosis. He died a month after I graduated, and his death stopped me writing that third book.
Not because it made me want to stop writing, but because I realised I wanted to write something different. Rather than write books that mildly entertained people, I wanted to write books that deeply helped people.
That’s why my third book instead became a self-help book disguised as an autobiography. It was a book sharing the life lessons I learned from the final days of Dad’s life and my process through grief afterwards.
It was this book that burst beyond my friends and family, and when published in 2017 hit #1 in the Death and Grief category on Amazon.
Over years of honing my craft as a writer, I learned to communicate my ideas and emotions well through written word. On the back of the book’s success, I also started pursuing a career as a speaker.
It was here I learned that words aren’t enough.
You can’t just “public read” to your audience to share your message effectively. You have to embody your message and become your story through your body language.
I joined Toastmasters to learn how to communicate effectively through the spoken word as well as the written word. I entered public speaking competitions and in 2019 I won my first national title. I’ve added multiple national and international public speaking trophies to that collection since (and added a couple more books to the roster too!).
Books and Speeches are both great mediums to connect with people, but they require different skills. As an author I focused just on the words, as a speaker you also need to focus on the delivery. A huge part of nailing that delivery is your body language.
The most frustrating aspect of body language is that there is a lot of BS out there.
Type “body language” into a search bar and you’ll find sleazy salespeople and creepy pickup dudes telling you that some magical finger wiggle secures the sale or the date.
There is no “hack” for body language, and any attempt to “hack” body language will be seen as inauthentic and manipulative by your audiences.
The key to body language is to understand principles around how body language improves communication, and then find your own style of employing these principles in your communication.
That’s what you are going to learn in this online workshop.
You will learn how to bring your stories to life so that your audience are hooked on every word.
You will learn how to make ideas stick so that your audience remembers and implements what you say.
You will learn how to ensure you stand out as a speaker so organisers want to book you again and audience members want to sign up as a client.
You will learn how to express yourself authentically so you don’t feel like a performing robot on stage.
And you’ll learn how to have more fun when speaking (yes, really!)
Don’t let the power of your words gather dust like an old book.
It’s time to bring your message to life.
Don’t spend another minute on stage feeling awkward, subdued or “off”. It’s time to get you expressing yourself fully when you speak.
