We'll have check-ins under names of ticket purchase. Doors open at 615 pm

We are in waters that are horribly familiar in the United States. The fight for racial justice and what should be the most common power held by all citizens -- the right to vote -- never stops. From Jefferson Davis and the Confederacy to racial segregation Jim Crow and terror lynching to George Wallace and Massive Resistance to the Civil Rights Movement to Donald Trump and MAGA, it’s all part of the same through line.

As democracy footsoldiers have done forever, we are not going to let anyone turn us around.

Dr. Terry Anne Scott, Director of the Institute for Common Power, and David Domke, Professor at Common Power, have created a unique lecture of inspiration and empowerment for this moment. Together on stage, they take us through two decades -- from World War II through the mid-1960s -- of extraordinary progressive change catalyzed by ordinary people during the modern Civil Rights Movement. This lecture is narrative, story-based, grounded in a mix of of everyday footsoldiers and high-level Movement leaders.

Please join us. We will have hors' douerves and wine! We will learn, listen, watch, laugh, and sing together. It is a community experience. And then we will move to action and more action.

This event is a fundraiser for Common Power's electoral work in this essential Midterms year. We are fighting for democracy and we need TIME and TREASURE to make this happen. Ticket prices go entirely to support Common Power's volunteer voter mobilization, and we will be making an ask for support at this event. :) You will have a chance to purchase a brand-new Institute for Common Power coffee table book, Reclaiming Democracy: The History of Voter Disenfrachisement and the Future of Voter Empowerment. All proceeds from the book go to support the Institute for Common Power's work with educators.

This "lecture" grew out of Truth and Purpose learning tours to the American South led by the Institute for Common Power.

Let's go. It's now or never!
