How did a self-taught painter create works of such beauty and unsettling power while shaping his own mythology along the way? It's time to explore the truth behind the legend and re-evaluate a truly enigmatic artist.Join <a href="https://www.nyadventureclub.com" title="https://www.nyadventureclub.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">New York Adventure Club</a> as we examine the life and legacy of Henri Rousseau (1844–1910) through the lens of the Musée de l’Orangerie’s exhibition “Henri Rousseau: In the Garden of Dreams.” Drawing from the museum’s own collection and the Barnes Foundation, this showcase tells the story of both the artist and the visionary collectors who championed his work.Led by historian, writer, and broadcaster Patrick Bade, this unique experience will include: <ul><li>An exploration of Rousseau’s reputation, from being dismissed as a “Sunday painter” to his late recognition as a genius by a younger generation of artists and critics</li><li>A closer look at the Orangerie exhibition, featuring works from the Musée de l’Orangerie, the Barnes Foundation, and major international museum collections</li><li>A discussion around Rousseau’s myths and inspirations, including his fabricated travels to Mexico and the real visual sources behind his iconic imagery</li><li>An examination of Rousseau’s artistic output, from his striking portraits to his dreamlike jungle scenes</li><li>An analysis of Rousseau’s legacy, including his influence on modern movements like Symbolism, Cubism, and Surrealism, and his rise from poverty to auction-house acclaim</li></ul> Afterward, we'll have a Q&amp;A with Patrick — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged!Can't make it live?
